What Is The Recommended CBD Dosage?

If you’re new to hemp products, you may be wondering: what is the recommended CBD dosage? How many mg of CBD or THC should you take per serving and per day? And what dose is best for your specific needs?

Unfortunately, there’s no universally recommended dosage when it comes to hemp products. The most effective CBD or THC dosage will depend on a variety of individualized factors, including:

  • Weight
  • Metabolism
  • Desired Effects
  • Severity of Symptoms
  • Individual Body Chemistry
  • Tolerance

And more.

Luckily, Proleve offers a variety of dosages and product types that make it easy to get started and find your perfect dose. Below, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the best CBD dose, drawing from research to give you an idea of what’s safe and effective for your specific needs.

Determining Your CBD Dosage: Start Low, Go Slow

Here at Proleve, we recommend taking a personalized approach to determining the best dose of CBD for your needs. That means sticking with the motto, “Start low, go slow.” We recommend starting with a lower CBD dosage and gradually working your way up.

To determine what dose is best for you and avoid side effects such as drowsiness, try starting with a low dose of CBD, aiming for an initial serving size around 10-20mg. Starting with a low dose and slowly increasing will help you avoid common side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, or lightheadedness.

If you’re not experiencing relief, try increasing your dosage gradually by about 5mg per week. Remember that CBD’s effects can be subtle, and can sometimes take up to a week to fully manifest. While some people will feel the effects of CBD instantly, others may need time for cannabinoids to build up in their system to experience optimal relief.

As always, we recommend checking with a healthcare provider when starting any CBD product. If your doctor doesn’t provide a recommended CBD dosage, however, you can check out the guidelines below based on studies indicating effective CBD dosages with a favorable safety profile in humans.

CBD Dosages Per Serving and Milligram

Typically, standard CBD dosages per serving ranges from 20 to 40mg.

CBD Dosage for Anxiety

If you’re using CBD to combat daytime anxiety and stress, try starting with a low dose in the 20-25mg range. This will help curb daily stress while preventing drowsiness that prevents you from going about your day-to-day activities.

CBD Dosage for Pain

The optimal CBD dosage for pain may trend slightly higher than for issues such as sleep or stress. If you’re addressing severe pain, you may want to start off closer to 40mg and increase by 5mg until you achieve relief.

CBD Dosage for Sleep

Since CBD tends to be more sedating in higher amounts, you may find something in the middle of this 20-40mg range more effective. As always, however, we suggest starting low and slowly increasing to avoid next day grogginess.

How Much CBD Can You Take in a Day? Maximum Daily Dosage of CBD

When it comes to maximum daily dosage, determining the best amount may depend on what you’re using CBD for. The best CBD dosage for anxiety, for instance, may be slightly lower than the optimal CBD dosage for pain. Since CBD tends to be more sedating at higher concentrations, you may be able to start with a higher CBD dosage for sleep, which could make it easier to drift off.

Studies suggest that effective doses of CBD with a favorable safety profile range from  20 to 1500 milligrams per day, describing a favorable safety profile for dosages in this range. Though this is a wide spectrum, it suggests that the total daily recommended CBD dosage shouldn’t exceed 1500mg. If you’re increasing your CBD dosage for pain and aren’t experiencing relief at this amount, try adding a CBD topical to your daily routine. Our CBD creams, lotions, salves, and roll ons can be applied on an as-needed basis, allowing you to complement your daily CBD dosage safely and effectively.

What is the Recommended THC Dosage?

Like CBD, it’s best to start with low doses of THC--especially if you’re new to hemp-derived Delta 8 or Delta 9. This is especially important to remember if you’re transitioning from Delta 8 to Delta 9, since Delta 8 tends to be about 50% less potent.

In either case, however, never start with more than a serving size in order to avoid unwanted side effects such as paranoia and stress. And when consuming products such as THC edibles, tinctures, or drinks, remember to be patient before increasing your dose: depending on product format, THC’s effects can take up to an hour to kick in.

Luckily, Proleve makes it easy to determine your dose with a wide range of serving sizes suitable for all wellness and recreational needs.

Recommended THC Dosage by Milligram: Delta 8

Our Delta 8 Gummies contain a single serving size per piece, with options including 25mg and 50mg. Delta 8 Tinctures are advertised by the total amount contained in each bottle (1500mg or 2500mg), with a single serving size in each dropper (1ml).

Recommended THC Dosage by Milligram: Delta 9

Since Delta 9 is about twice as strong as Delta 8, our D9 products are available in lower serving sizes. Gummies range from 12mg to 30mg, while our Delta 9 Baked Goods contain higher doses of 160mg per piece--so remember to start with half of a cookie, brownie, or cereal bar if you’re new to Delta 9 products.

Our Delta 9 Syrups are available in 420mg Bottles, with each 1 tablespoon serving size measuring just below 18mg. For an easy, single-serve experience, try our Delta 9 shots for simple dosing and on-the-go consumption.
